Teaching at Atlas
At Atlas, we know that in order to have thriving students, we start by having thriving educators. That’s why we’re committed to developing our team, giving them the tools they need to be successful, and pushing them to be the best teachers they can be for our students.
What Sets Us Apart
At Atlas, you’ll join a positive school community and work alongside like-minded educators who believe learning should be joyful and that kids learn best through meaningful, hands-on experiences. We know that if we want our students to thrive, we must truly set our teachers up for success. Some of the benefits of teaching at Atlas include:
Year-round school calendar
A year-round calendar with more frequent breaks benefits teachers by reducing burnout and helping them manage stress more effectively. Instead of one long summer break, regular intervals of time off provide opportunities to recharge, maintain a better work-life balance, and return to the classroom with renewed energy. These breaks also allow teachers to engage in professional development, refine lesson plans, and reflect on student progress without the pressure of daily instruction. With students also benefiting from more frequent rest periods, classroom engagement improves, making instruction more effective and reducing behavioral challenges. Additionally, teachers have more time to focus on their well-being, attend to personal matters, and sustain their passion for teaching. A balanced schedule leads to healthier, more motivated educators, ultimately enhancing the learning experience for students.
Two 50-minute plan periods each day
Each classroom teacher at Atlas is provided with two 50-minute planning periods daily. This dedicated time allows them to prepare lessons, gather materials, and collaborate with colleagues, promoting a healthier work-life balance and reducing stress. It also provides teachers with the opportunity to plan, internalize the curriculum, and reflect on their teaching, ensuring they can effectively support their students' individual needs.
Two adults in every room
At Atlas, we empower educators to teach effectively by maintaining classrooms of approximately 25 students, with two adults in every homeroom, at least one of whom is a certified teacher. This structure allows for dynamic, flexible instruction—whether through collaborative teaching, small group support, or individualized attention. It enhances student learning while fostering a supportive teaching environment where educators can leverage their strengths, share responsibilities, and provide targeted support. Additionally, our model ensures that all students receive the academic and social-emotional support they need to thrive.
Personalized Coaching
Our lead and resident teachers receive weekly, one-on-one coaching sessions designed to provide personalized support and actionable feedback. These tailored sessions focus on each teacher's unique strengths and areas for growth, ensuring they receive the guidance they need to thrive in the classroom. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, we empower our educators to enhance their teaching practices and deliver the best learning experience for our students.
These structures are designed to help ensure that each of our teachers have the skills and resources needed to be successful while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. It is serious work to be a teacher, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. We remember that teachers are people too and have their own needs that need to be met. We laugh, have fun, and work as a team to provide the best experience possible for our students and families.
Why We Are Growing
Atlas has been growing thoughtfully and intentionally to accommodate our expanding student body. Starting small, we decided to add a grade level each year, ensuring that each new class of students would receive the best educational experience possible. As a result, we have a number of positions open each year to support this growth. We will become a full PreK-8 school, and each step we take is carefully planned to maintain our high standards of teaching and community engagement. This approach allows us to build strong foundations and bring in talented individuals who share our vision for success.
Our teaching, support, and student-facing positions are all filled for the 2024-25 school year. Even if there isn't a current job listed, we are always looking for passionate, purpose-driven professionals who want to make a difference and align with our values. Tell us your story and how you could make a difference to this endeavor. To introduce yourself or learn about future job opportunities, send inquiries and resumes to Genevieve at [email protected].
